Featured on ABC News: Private Health Insurers Take Aim at Rising Specialist Fees

I was featured on ABC News in an article examining rising specialist fees and the growing number of Australians delaying care due to cost.

The report referenced new findings from Private Healthcare Australia showing:

  • Specialist in-hospital fees have risen 22 per cent in the past three years

  • The median hospital out-of-pocket cost is now $270

  • More than half of patients surveyed received a larger bill than expected

  • Nearly one in three delayed or cancelled specialist care due to cost

In the article, I spoke about navigating unexpected fees during my own treatment, including an unanticipated assistant surgeon’s bill, and the broader need for clearer conversations about medical costs.
