The Guy Who Helped Save My Life & Why It’s About You
This moment meant a lot. Not only full circle, but full heart.
Meeting Samuel Johnson from Love Your Sister at the Patients Australia Awards Gala was understandably emotional. After all, it is not every day you meet the man whose TV appearance after losing his sister prompted you to take action that saved your life.
But this post is not just about that. As Sam says, it is not about us. It is about you.
It is a reminder that you know your body best. If something does not feel right, go and see your doctor. Trust. Your. Gut.
I was 46 when I booked myself in for a mammogram. I only knew mammograms were free for over 40s because I saw Sam on TV. The system would not have called me until I was 50, but something felt off and I trusted myself. I am so thankful I did, because my diagnosis and prognosis would have been very different four years later.
You do not need permission to ask questions.
You do not need to wait to speak up.
You do not need someone to say “now’s the time.”
An undiagnosed cancer is an untreated one. Do not delay getting anything unusual checked out. Now is the time.
Watch this full circle moment — with a full heart & a full hug — as I meet Samuel Johnson from Love Your Sister. A powerful reminder to trust your instincts & speak up about your health.
Thank you to Patients Australia for making this happen and the team at Channel 9 News.
